ASSOCIATION OF NEPALI IN KENTUCKY AMERICA
Helping our Nepali community grow and thrive.
Helping the present, empowering the future.
ANKA exists to unite Nepalese in and around Lexington and collectively preserve our social, cultural, and religious norms and values and pass it on to the next generation.
Nurturing the Next Generation
Empowering the younger generation to enjoy success in finding and building successful careers/opportunities, a seminar/workshop was organized for middle school and high school students and parents on how to prepare for getting admission to college and scholarships. Our goal is to see more and more success and diversity in the years to come.
Language is a key factor in preserving and teaching our culture. To help this cause, we host Nepali language classes to teach children born here or came here with their parent. We also encourage parents to speak and teach this native language with their kids at home as it is the most effective way of learning a language.
Financial Assistance Programs
We want to be able to provide financial help to community members who are in a critical situation and may really need help. For this purpose, we have established a revolving fund and a guideline for its application. It works as a reimbursable fund which is provided as an advance to address immediate problem of the needed with the fund later reimbursed in some manner by the community.
Community Events
In order to preserve our culture, religion, and language, ANKA organizes important religious and cultural programs such as Dashain, Tihar, Holi and supports other specific regional programs with a goal of including maximum community members. These go outside of just our festivals with events such as blood drives and summer picnics.
