Community Center Program

Objective

Proudly securing an independent place for the use of the large Nepali community in and around Lexington. It would be used to host our meetings, seminars, and events related with our faith and other Nepali cultural events.

Purpose

  • To organize meetings and seminars for the Nepali community.

  • To conduct Nepali language classes.

  • To celebrate various religious and cultural programs.

  • To provide a hall for the community members to organize programs.

  • To have a space for sporting events and games.

  • To provide a hall for other communities to rent.

Requirements of Property Description

  • 1st priority will be to purchase an already built and run condition (even maintenance needed) building which should be in and around Lexington's 10 miles periphery.

  • 2nd option will be to purchase land (at least 10 acres) in the appropriate zone in and around Lexington's 10 miles periphery.

  • Enough area in the hall to sit 400 person with bathrooms, a parking area, and other structures which the city requires.

Fund collection

Legal base- ANKA is legally registered as a nonprofit community organization in Kentucky Commonwealth and Internal Revenue Service with 501(c) 3 certificate, and can raise funds for the project which help to communities. It provides receipt to donors which can submit this as tax exemption.

  • One time fund raising process.

    • Trusty member (who provide $ TBD or more).

    • Life member (who provide $ TBD or more).

    • General member (who provide $ TBD or more).

    • Donors (who donate according to their capacity and interest).

    • Appeal for donations in our Go Fund Me account.

    • Loan from financial institutions.

  • Regular fund raising process: This is focused to raise fund for the community center's operation.

    • Appeal $ TBD per month from community members' household.

    • Donations from community members, local governmental, non-governmental and charitable organizations.

    • Providing the hall for rent to our community members and to other communities.

Legal process to acquire property

  • Find out about the appropriate property.

  • Submit a proposal (property detail and use of it) to city office.

  • If city office accepts proposal, attend a public hearing.

  • If the public hearing passes, ready to buy the property.

Opportunities

  • Two existing organizations unified and made one organization - ANKA.

  • A growing Nepalese community in and around Lexington.

  • A real need for the community with events already requiring us to find halls to use.

Challenges

  • Sufficient community information is not available.

  • Limited income of our community members.

  • Misinformation creates more confusion within the community.

Formation of committee

ANKA can form different committees as needed to implement this project with efficiently and effectively in time. These will be detailed at a later time.

Accounting and auditing

To make financial transactions transparent, a separate bank account will be operated and all income and expenditures will be demonstrated transparently. This account will be audited by an internal auditor and a report will be presented during the general assembly.
